Lathe Stand
A stand for my first lathe, an old Delta Homecraft which I recovered and restored to working order. Made entirely of wood ripped from southern yellow pine 2x12s, the stand was an experiment in working with compound angles. (There are no right angle cuts on it anywhere.) The two legs on each side lean towards each other at 10°, and the two pairs of legs on either end also lean towards each other at 10°, a combination that caused a mind-numblingly complex series of cuts. I finally had to resort to drawing each board individually in a Sketchup model to figure out how to make it all come together. Although I loved the brain-teasing aspect of the build, in the end it was a failed experiment. At 35.5" the lathe table was uncomfortably high and when I broke the cast iron tool rest, I went in search of a new lathe.
